BEANS & SEEDS

Peru’s varied ecological and climate diversity contributes to its diverse beans and seeds crops. Beans and seeds have been part of the Peruvian culture and nutrition since ancient times, and in modern times gained more popularity and its health benefits undisputed due to its extraordinary nutritional value. In Peruvian diet, traditional grains such as quinoa and amaranth (cañihua) easily replace common cereals such as rice and wheat, playing an important role in household food and nutrition security. Affordable and healthy, they are much better than rice with a higher protein, fibre, vitamin and mineral content.

Peru’s unique geography and array of micro-climates - with the Pacific coast, the Andes Mountain range and the Amazon rainforest, makes it very well suited for the production and abundance of a range of fruits and vegetables. Since the mid-1980s, Peru has emerged as an important global fruits and vegetable exporter and sees constant increase in volume of agricultural exports due to its consistent supply and quality thanks to its favorable weather conditions.
